BORN WITH JAZZ ON HIS SIDE

Giampiero Rubei first discovered his passion for Jazz, a celebrated music genre in Italy, when he was still a student in the 1960’s, spending many a night at the famous “ Bricktop’s “ club in Via Veneto.

Rubei made his first entrance into the Jazz world of Rome in the 1970’s, organizing his first concerts, showcasing up- and-coming musicians who were to become the future protagonists of the Italian jazz scene.

In the 1980’s whilst the jazz phenomenon in Italy was still finding its feet, Rubei used his foresight and creativity to open up a jazz bar in the Prati zone, transforming it into an authentic ‘cave’ with all the sounds and smells of a real Jazz Club, which was given the name Alexanderplatz.

By the 1990’s, the club had become the renowned hotspot for jazz-lovers of Rome and the world over, thanks to the major Italian and international artists who performed there.

With its success, Rubei went on to create the star attraction of the Roman summer, the Villa Celimontana Festival, famous for its enchanting location and star lineup.
At the start of the year 2000 Rubei was by now the most dynamic musical director of jazz events in Italy, an artistic director respected the world over.

In the meantime he brought Alexanderplatz to the Dolomites, an event celebrating music and wine in Montalcino, a town renowned for its famous Brunello wine, as well as invading the streets of Lazio and the islands of Pontine with the sweet sounds of jazz. The Reggio Parma Festival also elected Rubei as artistic director for their jazz festival.

In 2005 he organized the first Italian Jazz Festival in New York and rought Italian electronic jazz to Israel.

These days Rubei has embarked on countless new projects, using his personal experience, artistic and musical sensibility to orchestrate both public and private.
